How the Media play a part in conceiving the society (the context of Marijuana).
Mass communication is a formalized and institutionalized system of conveying messages to large groups of people. In the 1930s, television was one of the most sough-after items in the American society. Many of the households owned one. Many of our views on crime are based on myths that either hide or attempt to reconcile social contradictions. In the earlier part of the documentary, it tells the viewers that America was clamping down hard on the use of vices such as drinking, drugs, and obviously, Marijuana. One of the biggest and most influential media in the 20th century was the newspapers. The newspapers began to broadcast the powerful policeman who was able to track down the hardest and most well hidden Marijuana, and kept repeating its successful stories on the papers. This tries to play on the mind of the readers as they would think that the police were eradicating the use of Marijuana really quickly. However, the seemingly superior drug commissioner was aware of the lack of quality policing, and hence the problem of Marijuana was not exactly solved.
